VETERAN OWNED BUSINESSAre you a veteran or transitioning military that is looking to be your own boss?

Are you interested in starting your own business or owning a franchise?

If so, we would like to share some information with you today.

Forward March Inc. is an SDVOB, that is a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Business. We are a company of veterans helping veterans. We take a lot of pride in our work and in the fact that we are in the ranks of our military service brothers and sisters who have started their own business. As of 2012, according to the SBA, veterans made up 9.1 percent of all business owners. According to the George Bush Institute, and many other research groups, veteran owned businesses are far more likely to succeed than non-veteran owned businesses.

Many of these opportunities are free for veterans! While many of these opportunities are in the San Antonio area we encourage veterans to look into their local Chamber, SBA, and university locations to find out if programs like this are being offered in their location.

Here is a roundup of opportunities that we found for veterans this week:

The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce is “re-booting” their entrepreneurial boot-camp for military veterans. You can learn more about that here.

Strong Leadership for Mission Success!

“A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. He does not set out be a leader, but becomes one by the equality of his actions and the integrity of his intent. “
– Douglas McArthur

leaderquote

Companies and organizations rise or fall on the leadership abilities of those who are in charge within the organization. Leaders in business today come in a wide variety of types, each seeming to bring their own leadership style to the table. Anyone who has worked for a company will be well aware of the successes or failures of various people in leadership positions. While everyone seems to enjoy the successes of a particular leader, it’s the failures that haunt the workplace for much longer. It goes without saying that quality leaders provide not only good morale and workplace organization, they also directly affect the company’s bottom line.

Just as people are not all born with the ability or desire to play sports, not all people are natural born leaders. Different personal traits and characteristics can help or hinder a person’s leadership effectiveness and require formalized programs for developing leadership competencies. Everyone can develop his or her leadership effectiveness, which takes focus, practice and persistence more akin to learning a musical instrument than reading a book.

What we have learned in business is that classroom-style training and associated reading is effective in helping leaders to know more about what is involved in leading well. However, knowing what to do and doing what you know are two very different outcomes. It is estimated that as little as 15% of learning from traditional classroom style training results in sustained behavioral change within the workplace.

So what is the best form of leadership training? That question probably has a variety of differing answers depending upon who you ask. At Forward March Inc. (FMI) we are less concerned with the variety of answers and more concerned with documented methodologies for achieving high quality leadership training. As they say, opinions are like belly-buttons, but at the end of the day what any company or organization needs is high quality proven leadership training and not opinions or half-baked theories. FMI focuses on training for results.

Training for results starts with changing the behavior for maximum performance. FMI collaborates with your management team to increase your bottom line while building an environment. This environment starts with a mindset which flows to an organizational mindset thus setting a new standard of excellence. Our team has extensive experience in:

  • Training and development
  • Workflow analysis
  • Change management
  • Leadership
  • Performance Management

We offer varied types of training courses tailored around your needs, ranging from one-on-one professional coaching to on-site group training, some that bring a “boot-camp” level of training style with a fun flair. Please refer to our program page to find out the best program for you.

Our program will help your company or organization to develop strong leaders that will be equipped to drastically change the culture of your team. Your team can expect growth in:

  • Transformation
  • Performance
  • Motivation
  • Values

We grow leaders, organizations and bottom line like no other!

National Day of the Deployed – This Sunday!

national day of deployed

First of all, we want to start this post off right. To all the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who are currently deployed, or have been, we want to salute you and thank you for your service, your sacrifice and your example. The United States of America remains the greatest nation on Earth in no small part because of the sacrifices that men and women have made through their military service. HOOAH!

All of us at Forward March Inc. wish to honor and give a hearty THANK YOU to every one of the brave men and women who have been deployed. The sacrifices of our military often go unnoticed by the media or the public at large. We would like to encourage everyone to make sure to remember our deployed service members. Take the time to reach out and thank them. If you know someone, work with someone or have a family member that has been deployed then pick up the phone, email or write them. Let them know that their sacrifice and service to their nation is appreciated.

RED FRIDAY-01

Many organizations have taken to the campaign of wearing red on Fridays to remember the deployed. Soldier’s Angels has a nice write-up on this here.  Other R.E.D. communities on line such as the R.E.D. community on Facebook can be found here.

Here is some background on the National Day of the Deployed:

October 26th is officially the National Day of the Deployed. The idea for the day started with Shelle Michaels Aberle who approached the North Dakota Governor John Hoeven for an official proclamation for the day founded the day in 2006.

In 2011 Senator John Hoeven led the efforts and co sponsored S.RES.295 for a National Day of the Deployed. The resolution was passed unanimously on the 18th of October, 2011. 2012 marked the first year that the nation observed a National Day of the Deployed.
