IMG_3335Yesterday we held our Camouflage to Corporate Conference, which provided companies and organizations with a roadmap for how to find, attract, hire and retain high quality veteran talent.

In the afternoon we held our first Veteran Employment Transition Networking Event where employers and veterans had the opportunity to meet, network, and even interview. Transitioning military and veterans who attended event had the opportunity to meet with a variety of companies, veteran’s organizations and educational institutions.

FMI Vet Employment Weekly RoundupVeterans make great employees, as we are always thrilled to point out here on our blog. Army Gen. Martin E. Empsey the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff highlighted this fact said in a New York symposium of Veterans on Wall street. Take a minute to go read more about what he had to say here…

Veterans are filling needs for top job qualifications according to a recent article in the Houston Chronicle. Read more here… If you are a veteran or transitioning military person then you may want to check out the employers and industries in Houston referenced in this article.

While we love San Antonio, home of Forward March Inc., we know that many other cities have a lot to offer veterans and transitioning military. The Washington Business Journal just posted an article ranking Houston and San Antonio numbers one and two in the 2014 Best Places for Veterans: Mid-career rankings. While Texas seems to dominate the list with cities in the numbers 1, 2, 5 and 9 positions, there are other cities that are making great strides with regards to veteran employment.

November is Military Families Month but its also Celebrate America’s Military Month here in San Antonio. The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce has a list of events for the entire month that you can check out here… There are a wide variety of events but keep your calendar open for the Hiring Red White and You event on November 13th if you are a veteran looking for a job.

If you are a veteran Starbucks and Amazon are looking for you! Starbucks has pledged to hire 10,000 veterans and their spouses within the next five years. Market Watch has a really good article with information about companies such as Starbucks, Amazon and Walmart who are hiring veterans. Veterans who want to join the SBA and start down the track of entrepreneurship should check out the latest article on the San Antonio Business Journal site. The SBA is extending their fee waiver program for veterans through 2015!

Veterans and transitioning military interested in starting their own business should also check out the San Antonio Small Business Development Center at UTSA. This program offers a number of benefits including special veterans assistance.

Forward March Inc Military Hiring 101 Event was a HUGE success!

Forward March Inc held our first Military Hiring 101 event Wednesday, August 27, 2014. This was a highly successful training and networking event giving companies a chance to develop a strategy for hiring veterans and to begin to actually take significant steps to developing a military talent pipeline for their organizations.

The one-day event was hosted at our Forward March Inc. offices here in San Antonio, and attended by companies and their HR representatives from the San Antonio and Austin area. Jason Caswell, retired U.S. Army and the Director of Talent Resources and Training Development for FMI, conducted the training along with FMI’s president Paul Volpe, also retired U.S. Army. Forward March Inc. is in a unique position as we have over 35 years of experience in helping veterans and companies in the veteran and transitioning military hiring process. Companies in attendance were able to walk away with a battle-plan for hiring veterans, as well as a wealth of information, tools, and tips. Companies also had the opportunity to network with Mauricio Jalomo, the Army Career Employment Specialist from the Private Public Partnership Office of the U.S. Army Reserve and learn about how to hire Army Reserve personnel for their companies.

Forward March Inc is a company of veterans committed to our fellow veterans. We are thrilled to be able to work with local companies, business leaders, city and state government representatives, and educational institutions in order to bring successful hiring strategies for hiring veterans as well as for transitioning military personnel. USAA and Disney Veterans Institute Workshop Recap

Forward March Inc, was proud to attend the USAA the Veterans Institute Workshop with Disney to encourage businesses to hire military veterans. The event was held Tuesday the 19th at the USAA headquarters campus and featured a variety of presentations focused on the subject of veteran hiring. The day was filled with opportunities for networking with companies truly committed to finding ways to hire veterans. Many outstanding speakers were present to include USAA CEO retired Army Maj. Gen. Joe Robles Jr., ABC News anchor Bob Woodruff and James Schmeling, co-founder of the Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University.  Bob Woodruff gave an inspiring talk about his experiences with the US military and shared his passion wanting to see our nation’s finest get hired.
